Reassurance for parents, carers & guardians

Your child, your most precious asset

A Mum and young son playing with toy cars at home.

Your children mean the world to you. When they start driving lessons in the UK, keeping them safe becomes even more important.

Make sure they know the basics. Remind them to always wear seatbelts, stay off their phones, and never drive after drinking or using drugs. Encourage lessons with a qualified instructor. Discuss with them what it means to be a responsible driver.

Keep in touch with your children about their driving. Encourage good habits and check in on how they're doing. The free Total Drive app can help you follow their progress.

By fostering safe habits from the start, you help protect your children as they transition from learning to drive to becoming independent drivers.

The instructors role & responsibility

As a father of three, I fully appreciate that parents must have complete trust in the person they choose to teach their young adults to drive.

As a DVSA-approved driving instructor (ADI), I have a responsibility to keep your child safe on the road during driving lessons whilst gradually passing on the responsibility to them, so they can keep themselves and other road users safe.

My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where your child can develop the skills and confidence necessary to become a considerate, safe and responsible driver for life.

If you would like to meet me before driving lessons start, then please let me know. I will be more than happy to.

Check if your instructor is genuine

Green Badge ADI ( Approved Driving Instructor)

Pink Badge PDI ( Potential Driving Instructor, Training)

Driving instructors must display either of the above badges on their windscreen. Beware of fake/unqualified "instructors" who advertise on social media. When you are choosing your instructor, ask for their instructor number. You can check if they are genuine on the DVSA website here

Driving instructors hold positions of significant responsibility and trust, with access to personal information and a duty to ensure learner safety.

All UK driving instructors are required to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and renew it every four years to maintain their registration as Approved Driving Instructors (ADI).

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) assesses the results to determine whether instructors meet the 'fit and proper' criteria for working with the public.
